From the newly constructed condos carved into the hillside above Frigate Bay in St. Kitts, the Atlantic and Caribbean oceans fade effortlessly to the horizon.
Welcome to OceanÂ’s Edge, a beautifully landscaped, tropical community that sits at the entrance of the southeast peninsula of the island. Here, contemporary designed one and two-level homes offer an open and airy island feel for both indoor and outdoor living with extensive terraces, some with infinity pools, overlooking the ocean. Some offer a furniture package making them a full, turn-key solution.
OceanÂ’s Edge is an unusual sight for the small volcanic island of St. Kitts, where a tourism-based economy is replacing sugar cane agriculture. Phase One of the 40-acre, 193-unit development is scheduled for completion in mid 2009, with Phase Two slated for 2011 and full completion in 2012. The resort community will be comprised of 170 (beachfront, hillside, and garden) condos and 23 villas.
Residents at OceanÂ’s Edge will be able to relax and enjoy a number of on site recreational activities, including golf at the renowned Royal St. Kitts Golf Club, one of the more scenic courses in the Caribbean. With snorkeling, scuba diving, rainforest hiking, sailing, deep sea fishing, waterskiing, windsurfing, and biking, thereÂ’s plenty of activities to keep busy. When completed, the condo resort will have a beachfront restaurant and bar, a clubhouse, a recreation center with fitness facility, pools, and tennis courts. Concierge services and housekeeping will also be available to residents.
Basseterre, a bustling yet charming downtown area, just minutes from OceanÂ’s Edge, is a great place to experience the flavor of this 275-year-old community. St. Kitts is one of the least built up islands in the Caribbean and maintains a discreet profile and low crime rate, shunning commercialism in favor of tranquility.
As an approved project of the Citizenship by Investment Program of St. Kitts, OceanÂ’s Edge allows buyers who make a minimum investment of $350,000 (US) to be entitled to apply for citizenship for life. Without having to reside on the island, homeowners can use passports to travel visa free to a number of countries. Additionally, the island has no income tax, inheritance tax, wealth tax, or capital gains tax (on property owned for 12 months or longer).
Regular non-stop flights bare available from Miami, Charlotte, Atlanta, San Juan, and New York. Flights from Toronto are available during high season. The Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport is just a 10-minute drive from the resort. —Teri Borseti
