Fairfax & Sammons is an internationally recognized firm of classical architects specializing in residential architectural design.
The firm is committed to the tradition of architecture and firmly believes that classicism, be it expressed informally or formally, in the domestic realm offers creative solutions, both timeless and beautiful.
“We are sought after by clients who share our goal to design private homes which look and feel as if they have always been there,” says partner Richard Sammons. “We are knowledgeable historians to the extent that we respect and know history, but are not slaves to it.
“A sense of place is important to us,” he adds. “The climate, history, building materials, and precedents of building culture, all form the building blocks which inform our design process. We do not build monuments to our own idiosyncratic vision.”
Partners in business as well as in marriage, Anne Fairfax and Richard Sammons are founding partners of the firm, which today comprises 30 members.
They are both members of the INTBAU College of Traditional Practitioners (ICTP), an international professional body for practitioners in traditional architecture, under the auspices of his Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales.
They are the recipients of numerous awards and their work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Country Life, Southern Accents, and Ocean Home.
Their monograph, American Houses: The Architecture of Fairfax & Sammons is published by Rizzoli International.
