Oh, how I dream of a luxury bath tub – one that has a water view and is so decadent that words can’t describe. Next on my home renovation list is a master bathroom makeover. Luckily, bathroom renovations are still one of the best investments of money these days.

Completing a bathroom remodel appears to be a better investment during this economic time than a bath addition according to Remodeling magazine’s Cost vs. Value Report 2011-2012. The average cost recoup for a bath remodel is hovering around 75.1% in the Pacific Region in which I reside; however South Atlantic states may see a 68.3% recoup on costs.

Please keep in mind that these numbers depend on many things including your region and housing market. If you are unsure of what improvements to complete in your home, I suggest contacting a local Realtor before getting started. Real Estate Agents can provide a clear vision of what home values are in your area and where best to invest your hard earned money.

Besides adding a luxury bath tub to your home, you may consider some other lower cost additions such as installing a tile tub surround, solid-surface vanity counter top or ceramic floor tiles. The addition of new plumbing and lighting fixtures is always a cost effective way to spruce up the bath. On a really tight budget? Try a fresh coat of paint on walls and cabinetry plus purchase some of the easy-to-install laminate floor tiles available in the marketplace.

My experience in remodeling and selling homes over the past two decades, has proven that it is profitable to do at least some upgrades to the bathroom and kitchen areas of your home…whether it’s a $75,000 or $500 investment. A beautiful bath is a great investment!
