Redecoration: we all put it off. Every new year we will think that enough is enough and this is the year that we will get around to giving our homes a proper clean up and touch up. But we never do. Why? Because it’s a gargantuan effort. Especially once you’re already in a property. You gain more and more belongings, and the thought of moving them all out of the way of a drippy paintbrush is more effort than we care to seriously consider. But you should get down to it. Here’s why.
Prevention Is Better Than Cure
If you catch warning signs of problems early on, they’ll be much easier to fix and treat than leaving them until something goes drastically wrong. Seen a few cracks in the walls here and there? Get on it and fill them in. Don’t want until there’s a gaping hole in your wall and you have to call a plasterer in. Noticed a pipe under the sink is leaking? Call in a plumber to repair it before you end up having to call one out for a broken pipe and consequently flooded kitchen. You will save yourself a lot of time, money and hassle by fixing things as you see problems arise, rather than waiting until something is completely broken or problematic.
Spring Clean
When you redecorate, you have to clear out all of your junk and give the room you’re working on a good spring clean. Your rooms will scrub up well, and once they’ve got a fresh lick of paint on the ceiling and walls, they’ll look gleaming. Redecoration gives a good excuse for a simultaneous deep clean.
Modernization
If you haven’t redecorated for years, it might be time for a bit of an upgrade. Lots of styles of decoration have become extremely dated. Textured walls are out, and smooth walls are in. Intense wallpaper patterns aren’t quite so popular now, and you might like to consider a lick of paint or a more subtle papering. Redecoration is a good way to give your home the spruce up it needs.
A Complete Overhaul
Maybe you fancy something completely new but don’t want the hassle of moving home and starting all over again. Consider bringing in interior designers to take a look at what you have to work with. They’ll be able to suggest a complete makeover for your home’s interior. New carpets, different colour schemes and alternative accessories, for example. You’ll feel like a completely new person when you sit on your new furniture in your brand new, shiny and exciting interior.
Procrastination Is The Thief Of Time
As the saying goes, procrastination is the thief of time. If you put redecoration off today, what’s to say you won’t put it off tomorrow? And the day after? And the day after that? Get to it. Once you decide that you’d like to redecorate, start the process as soon as possible. Otherwise, you’ll never get around to it, and it will remain a dream, when it needn’t be.
