One of the most desirable spots along the Maine Coast is Somes Sound on MDI

Somes Sound has long been one of Maine’s most desirable sailing spots for its deep yet narrow body of water. Mount Desert Island is home to such summer communities as Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor, both a stone’s throw across the sound from one another on Mount Desert Island (MDI). The sound is 5 miles long and in spots, about 120 feet deep and offers sailing enthusiasts beautiful deep blue water to navigate about. The sound is dotted with 10,000 square foot mansions, most built in the classic shingle style the coast of Maine is known for. Acadia National Park brings the summer visitors but the relaxed way of life and the sailing brings many of our seasonal residents.
