Belize is a BEAUTIFUL, PEACEFUL, FRIENDLY country that welcomes all

Wouldn't you rather be here!

Welcome to the first of many, hopefully, informative blog entries on Belize. That little known country in Central America that acts more like the Caribbean!

Belize has only been an independent country in the British Commonwealth for 29 years, actually younger than my daughter! During most of those years it has been hidden from the limelight mostly because of its size and economy. Just wasn’t important enough for most travelers. Only the daring divers and explorers visited British Honduras during those years.

For years sugar cane, shrimp, lobster, and a few other fruits and vegetables were the main export and economy drivers, but over the past few years tourism has caught up and surpassed all of them combined.

Belize is a BEAUTIFUL, PEACEFUL, FRIENDLY country that welcomes all.

We are Belize Shores Realty, the Commercial property brokers for Belize. We have properties available from $250,000 to $50,000,000 USD!
Stay tuned for more from time to time.

Luxury Lifestyle on the Natural Beachfront of Akumal

Oceanfront View from North Akumal Home

Akumal, located just north of Tulum on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, is a beautiful oceanfront village which combines luxury lifestyle with the area’s splendid Caribbean beaches and pristine nature which has been carefully integrated into the village. Luxury Tulum real estate in the village is designed to optimize visual and active enjoyment of the beaches and nature, combined with comfort.

The beaches of Mexico’s Caribbean shore are wide, white with soft sand, and the famous turquoise water behind; many consider these beaches not only the most beautiful they’ve seen but also the most comfortable for walking on. These beaches draw regular returning visitors year after year, especially in the village of Akumal, where Half Moon Bay and Akumal Bay provide some of the finest and most exclusive beach areas even on the gorgeous Mexican Caribbean.

Akumal Beachfront

In addition to the beaches, Akumal is also home some of the area’s distinct natural features, including sea turtle habitats, natural sand dune areas just off the beachfront, and large lagoons a few hundred yards back from the beach, which are home to a variety of wildlife and vegetation. An aspect of Akumal which has been integral in its development since its founding is an effort to preserve this nature in a way allowing residents to enjoy it at the same time. The turtle habitats, sand dunes and lagoons are protected, with special areas for boats arriving and leaving, walking paths between the dunes and accessing the lagoon allowing residents to observe and enjoy at the same time.

Besides exclusive resorts in the area, especially the community of North Akumal is home to a small community of Americans and Canadians who have chosen to live in Mexico with luxury at its finest. Homes in the area are large, with panoramic ocean views, pools and gazebos overlooking the shore. Some include design from acclaimed architects. Oceanfront terraces, landscaped gardens and spacious yards make every aspect of life in one of these homes a pleasure.

Sea Turtle in Akumal

The nature mentioned above is also a part of the pleasure of one of these homes; vegetation preserved in North Akumal offers wonderful views from the back of properties, as well as pleasant walking atmosphere. Homes located on the one of the bays will allow residents to snorkel or dive in the ocean, observing the sea turtles, other homes are only a short walk way. (The Akumal Ecological Center provides information on how to avoid harming the animals.)

A property in North Akumal is also a great investment. High vacation rental demand has allowed many home owners to fully book their property for the 2010/2011 Christmas-New Years season before the mid-summer. Through occasional rental, owners have also been able to cover expenses and more quite readily. Some include guest homes which can be rented out separately, or as part of the main house.

A couple of luxury homes in the area have recently seen considerable price reductions from original asking price, one of them now reduced to less than 50% of what a similar adjacent home is being listed for.

Akumal also includes a small village center, again with plenty of trees and green areas integrated. Here there are some small restaurants, little shops of local handicrafts and Mexican art, and a few basic services. Life in Akumal is quiet, and relaxing.

Within a short drive are many other features ideal for a comfortable lifestyle including 8 golf courses (one of which is host to Latin America’s first PGA event), large new shopping areas, and several marinas.

Turks and Caicos

ohnd09_destinations_2The Caribbean’s last frontier, Turks and Caicos, remains an undiscovered gem.

Though close to “civilization,” the islands of Turks and Caicos are overlooked by vacationers heading farther into the Caribbean without ever knowing that they are a nearby paradise for skin diving and snorkeling, that there are untold miles of flawless beaches, and that some of the finest resorts have been built to take advantage of these delights. Although the islands lie at the end of the Bahamas, just 90 minutes from Miami, those oblivious tourists have no idea they are missing 200 miles of sugar-soft beaches often selected as the “world’s best,” that the nearby waters hold everything from humpback whales to fleets of colorful tropical fish, or that there are many spas with world-class reputations.

Don’t be surprised if you bump into Hollywood celebrities as you browse the street markets: Bruce Willis and Dick Clark own homes here, and Ben Affleck was married here, as was Eva Longoria. Recording artists Lionel Ritchie, LL Cool J, and Kenny Rogers are regulars at the annual music festival.

ohnd09_destinations_4You can tackle the challenging and beautiful Provo golf course, explore the nature preserves on rented scooters, or stalk trophy-sized gamefish offshore. Most visitors, however, are content to float in the gin-clear waters, lounge with a trashy novel in a hammock, or wiggle their toes in the sand. —Chris Caswell

Discovering the Good Life in Grand Cayman

ritz_piano

One of the most breathtaking stretches of ocean-front in the Caribbean, Seven Mile Beach is literally the front yard of The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. Part of the Dragon Bay resort master-planned community, home owners in this unique resort will find all that their heart desires.

Long known for its beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and relaxed atmosphere, the Cayman Islands are a short, 90-minute flight from Miami, Florida. Nestled in the pristine waters of the western Caribbean, this group of three islands is situated between Cuba and Jamaica. With a total land size of only 78-square-miles, Grand Cayman is the largest and most developed of the island trio and truly, a slice of paradise.ritzgrandcayman5

In addition to the legendary hotel services provided by The Ritz-Carlton, the resort amenities include a signature restaurant by Eric Ripert of Le Bernardin in New York City; Silver Rain, a La Prairie Spa; Blue Tip, a Greg Norman-designed golf course; The Courts, a tennis program by Nick Bollettieri; and the Ambassadors of the Environment by Jean-Michel Cousteau.

Offering three-stunning product lines in the majestic Dragon Bay master-planned community, there is a home to suit every taste and lifestyle. Dragon Bay was created with a blank canvas, carving waterways and shaping hills to form the perfect island community – a series of islands inter-linked by water with a series of focal points where residents and visitors alike will gather for fine food and entertainment. ritzgrandcayman6 Here, five-star service and privacy are part of the design.  All properties are situated amidst the award-winning Ritz-Carlton Resort on Seven Mile Beach, and owners have full access to the world-class facilities of the resort.

The Residences at the Ritz-Carlton define ocean-front living on the finest beach in Grand Cayman. They are the prototype that is often imitated, but never matched. Each luxury residence offers a unique ambience highlighted by stunning vistas of the Caribbean from multiple terraces. The properties are outfitted with the finest amenities, including Viking ranges, Sub-Zero refrigerators, Italian marble flooring, plush carpeting, and granite countertops throughout. The fully-furnished Residences include a built-in wine cooler, crystal china, and televisions in every room, including a large plasma television in the main living area. ritzcayman2

Inspiration for The Deckhouses came from our journey as we visited 32 resorts, each renowned for its uniqueness, carefully harvesting the essence of each.   Our Deckhouses are cherished by some of the world’s most successful and discerning individuals.  Each home offers a private-island oasis with its own private beach, pool, guesthouse, boathouse, and dock.  Outdoor showers soar under the starts, with massive living spaces inside and out.  Every plan is 5-bedroom and delivers a feeling quite larger than its 7,000-square feet. With wrap-around views, twelve-foot ceilings, and private estate-style gardens, The Deckhouses offer an exclusive ownership opportunity within the resort.

Secret Harbour is the newest addition to Dragon Bay.  This community truly creates a new category of tropical resort living.  Inspired by the owner/developer’s voyage around the world, Secret Harbour is a collection of sundrenched loft spaces surrounding a private harbour that is entered through one of the buildings. ritzgrandcayman3 The promenade evokes the charm of harbour-side villages the world over, as owners enjoy a stroll from the café to the pool, past the beaches and private marina.  The amenities of the entire resort are at your disposal, along with an unmatched array of additional conveniences. Secret Harbour residences also offer roof-top decks, sky houses and private two-story lofts with roof decks over water, and much more. Secret Harbour is unlike anything ever built, and it offers all of these fabulous amenities, as well as our legendary design, quality, execution and services.

All resort property owners are able to participate in the resort’s one-of-a-kind Endless Service Program, a concept that is truly unique to Caribbean luxury living.  The program builds on the service levels offered to hotel guests and owners by The Ritz-Carlton, and takes further steps to ensure owners’ experiences are carefree.  From assistance with interior design, arranging airport transfers, coordinating local reservations and activities, and much, much more, our Endless Service Program will ensure that you are ready to enjoy Cayman life to its fullest, from the very moment you set foot on the Island. ritzgrandcayman4

Beyond the Seven Mile Beach and the beauty of Dragon Bay Resort, nature-lovers will find Stingray City, where stingrays will actually swim up and eat out of your hands.  The Butterfly Farm, home to hundreds of exotic butterflies flying freely, is also nearby, as well as the Green Sea Turtle Farm, the world’s only green sea turtle farm.  Individuals and families alike will discover plenty of unique and memorable Cayman experiences, both on and off the Dragon Bay resort. Complete with the tranquil sounds of waves and the beautiful sights of daily sunrises and sunsets, even the most discerning individual will enjoy ocean-side living at its best.

Porto Cupecoy

ohos09_villaspotlight_5St. Maarten’s Porto Cupecoy indulges in the Mediterranean good life.
By Teri Borseti

Relaxing in the tropics normally conjures up images of secluded, pristine beaches, but Orient-Express is putting a new spin on Caribbean living. Framed by lush landscape and teal waters, the Mediterranean-style village of St. Maarten’s Porto Cupecoy features high- and low-rise residence buildings, coupled with galleries, bistros, European sidewalk cafes, and resort boutiques, creating the perfect balance of energy and relaxation. The pedestrian-friendly community includes a white-glove marina and yacht club with 48 slips.

The setting was developed by Orient-Express, whose La Samanna Hotel in St. Maarten proved to be a favorite spot of Jackie Kennedy Onassis in the 1960s. Spacious residences with large loggia balconies overlook stucco buildings with red barrel tile roofs and ever-changing views of the Caribbean, dotted with a variety of pleasure boats. Bright, airy interiors include Brazilian cherry kitchens, stainless Viking appliances, Italian marble, and simple, clean European detailing throughout.

ohos09_villaspotlight_3Joseph Rosol, a resident of the island, has vacationed all over the Caribbean and fell in love with St. Maarten in the 1980s. After 40 years in hedge funds, he retired here three years ago. The Dallas native had already bought a house on the island when he found himself first in line to buy at Porto Cupecoy.  “This development has everything going for it. It’s being developed by a very reputable company, it’s on the best side of the island, it’s close to the airport, and there are no capital gains or property taxes here,” Rosol says.

Porto Cupecoy is slated for completion in November 2009 and will have everything residents need at their fingertips. A variety of stores, medical offices, fitness amenities, and a boardwalk will be steps away.

The Caribbean luxury villa rental is located right on the beachfront in the exclusive Orchid Bay Estates, a private, American-owned, secure, gated community.

The villa was designed by the same architect responsible for the World-Famous Case Colonial Hotel.

The Dominican Republic vacation rental villa sits on a rock cliff about 20 feet about one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, which is where you’ll probably spend most of your time while you’re down here.

A stunning collection of charming Bali-style structures make up the intriguing architecture and design of this Caribbean luxury villa rental destination. The villa is comprised of a Main House featuring a master suite, plus three adjacent habitations (separate buildings) containing five additional bedrooms, all with air conditioning and all in suite. The lush grounds that surround the Caribbean villa provide ample hideaway spots which beckon for reading, resting, or romantic seclusion.

The great room itself is nearly 2,000 sq ft, and is complemented by a dining room which seats 14. There are two large verandas, one that overlooks the sparkling pool and hot tub, while the other boasts a full-service bar. There’s also a billiards room.

Th0e Laziest Pool in the Caribbean is found down the steps at the back of the Main House. The villa rental features its own zero-entry beach style pool, so you simply walk in and out, rather than climb in and out. Even more effortless, the relaxing, party-sized hot tub awaits. Nearby, you’ll find the romantic yet spacious outdoor or catching a siesta just about anytime. If there is anything you’d like to eat or drink, just mention is to one of the dedicated and highly trained staff, and they will bring it right to your chair.

Go for a snorkel. Have a picnic. Enjoy Caribbean deep sea fishing or some excellent, Dominican Republic golf. Play a friendly game of volleyball, or just mellow out and lay back in the sun. When you’re ready for another drink, ask one of the staff what they suggest and they will cheerfully bring you an ice old Presidente.
