ohnd09_inside_1Say goodbye to your old wine cellar; Revel ups the storage ante.

Storing wine in your basement just got more exciting thanks to Revel Custom Wine Cellars. Inventor Jim Cash’s latest designs combine functionality with aesthetics, and the result is not just a talking piece for dinner parties, but a great way to reevaluate the way in which you not only display your wine but also select it for consumption.

Typically, wine bottles are stored in diamond-shaped cubicles with their necks sticking out. Oftentimes, it can be hard to find the wine you’re looking for with this construction; labels can get damaged, and the wine itself can get disturbed, which can hinder aging.

Revel’s new layout helps you to evaluate, design, and construct the perfect cellar.  “I realized that wine cellar owners sometimes care more about what it looks like than how it works,” Cash says. The Revel dowel system cradles bottles upon bars of wood, tipped on an angle. This way, different sizes of bottles can be stored together, and labels can be seen easily, so there’s no shuffling around of glass to find what you’re looking for.

Lost corner space can be optimized with the wine wheel, which stacks carousels in the corners of your cellar in an exposed, lazy Susan design, allowing the artistic combination of spokes and glass to add charm to your cellar. Because some wine collectors buy by the case, there are also shelves to provide storage so that whole cases can be kept together.

Looking beyond the technical make-up of a Revel cellar, however, one can simply appreciate the beauty. Erica Abramson, a Revel customer who was so impressed with the design that she became a distributor, says, “Clients want them because they’re so pretty, even though they don’t know anything about wine. But the functionality is so unbelievable. It’s a conversation piece; it’s a wow factor. Plus, it’s a great addition to my home and to my life.” —Sarah A. Ditkoff
