Elegant features of the house include a top-floor master suite, chandelier-lit master bathroom, fireplace, ocean-view terrace, wine cellar, and a large dining room that holds up to twenty comfortably. Pawleys Island Style Presents Ultimate Comfort and Luxury

Luxe Living: Pawleys Island Style

“Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise, it’s not luxury.” ~ Coco Chanel

Coco would have loved this traditional “Pawleys Island Style” beach house at DeBordieu because it’s about as comfortable as you can get, yet it’s very close to luxurious fine dining, private championship golf, and miles of spectacular beaches.

Located about an hour north of Charleston, South Carolina, Pawleys Island is one of the oldest summer resorts on the East Coast. In the Early 1700s, families of rice planters who owned plantations on the rivers nearby would come to Pawleys Island to escape the heat, mosquitoes and malaria. The seashore was considered much healthier, and much more comfortable. Each year they would come in May, and stay until about November.

Twelve of those original Pawleys Island residences still remain in the historic district where people still come to enjoy a care-free, laid-back lifestyle. Homes and cottages have been built since then in the same casual, comfortable style that is perfect for family gatherings.  The term, “Arrogantly Shabby” has been coined to refer to those great older homes and cottages and some of the newer residences that mimic their casual design.

Walk this way: experience the beach at your fingertips

Just a couple miles south of Pawleys, this DeBordieu beach home located at 20 Sea Biscuit Court, it has that same, rustic, comfortable “Pawleys Island Style” that promotes good times with family and friends. Whether you choose to walk the 6 ½ miles of secluded beach, fish in the creeks of pristine North Inlet, or play a round of golf on DeBordieu’s Championship Pete Dye Golf Course, having a comfortable home to return to will certainly enhance your experience.

Boasting 6 bedrooms, 8 baths, and 5400 heated square feet, its located on a huge corner lot on a quiet cul-de-sac. You can watch the sunrise over the ocean from the wraparound screen porch, or the sun deck .  While it’s not directly on the ocean front, it is right next to the beach access path providing quick and easy access to DeBordieu’s 6 ½ miles of beach. The drive through garage offers an opportunity to easily store and access your boat for a day in the creek. Other features of the home include: Heart Pine Floors, 2 Living Rooms, Formal Dining Room, Breakfast Room, wet bar with ice maker, 3 water heaters, 2 heat pumps, 2 fireplaces, 2 ovens, 2 outdoor showers, Jacuzzi Tub, Steam Shower, cedar lined closets, abundant storage and plenty of parking.

At the asking price of $1,398,200, 20 Sea Biscuit is one of DeBordieu’s best values, and would be an excellent addition to the DeBordieu Rental Program. Coco Channel would have loved it!

Michele Hughes Sells 34-acre Kauai Secret Beach Properties

Three parcels of oceanfront land totaling 34 acres in Kilauea on Kauai’s North Shore were sold to an undisclosed buyer in an auction conducted by New York Concierge Auctions.

The properties, located above Kauai’s Secret Beach, include two five-acre parcels with houses known as Hale Nanea and Hale Lani, and a 24-acre oceanfront site on Kauapea Road. One buyer purchased all three parcels, Concierge Auctions said in a statement. The price was not disclosed.

The seller, Michele Hughes of the Michele Hughes Co., had assembled the parcels over a total of 33 years. She had purchased the lots from various sellers, including one from actor Sylvester Stallone, Hughes told PBN.

“I am a developer, and it’s time to go on to the next project,” she said. “I’m looking for my next — you could call it reinventing myself — my next project.”

The buyer and a partner plan to build one estate home on the property, she said.

“They’re allowed to build six (homes),” she said. “They want to keep the property as a private estate instead of building out the density.”

The property’s two vacation rentals, marketed as Secret Beach Hideaway, will continue to operate under the new owners, she said.

Twitter’s Jack Dorsey Buys a New Home in San Francisco

It appears Twitter Co-founder (and Square CEO) Jack Dorsey has snatched up a cliff side sensation of a house located in the Seacliff neighborhood of San Francisco. The $9 million 2 bedroom house (which happens to be the most expensive 2 bedroom house in the town) offers majestic views of the SF bay and Golden Gate bridge.

From the Dupont Group listing before it was sold:

Perched within San Francisco’s most scenic and exclusive community is our City’s most elite, private, Golden Gate panorama. Every element of this grand home celebrates its oceanfront heritage. This 2 bed 3 bath, 3700 sqft home comes with approved plans for a 3000+ sqft addition. The foundation and retaining walls are an engineering marvel: a sophisticated blend of architectural potential and seaside, Golden Gate kinetics.

“The vistas are of titanic proportions – entertained by a steady stream yachts and vessels that disappear through the Golden Gate’s counterpart to the Colossus of Rhodes.

“Sleep here comes through undulating Pacific Ocean rhythms and sea-fresh California breezes with absolute silence except for the sounds of the sea.

“This home is hidden from street view behind an old growth Redwood gateway, down a short private drive and behind a front door destined for a museum. Inside custom finishes abound: hand beveled Beauharnais limestone floors, and hand trawled integral plaster walls; where views emanate from infinity decks and windows of Starfire glass capture San Francisco’s most prominent architecture to the Southeast and the ocean and Golden Gate all around. The central lounge area is illuminated by a mammoth, double-pained, retractable glass skylight and flows in every way to cozy spaces with views. Framed by vast Golden Gate vistas, the kitchen contrasts this natural order with Brazilian blood-wood cabinets, Volga-blue granite counters, a large central island, and a plethora of custom high-end finishes.”

And judging by Jack’s recent tweets, he seems to be having a blast!

Jim Carrey Lists His Malibu Beach House

Canadian-born comedic actor Jim Carrey has been pulling down the big bucks since the early ’90s, becoming one of Hollywood’s highest paid actors along the way. So it must be that Carrey, who was recently spotted checking out penthouses in Manhattan, is simply tiring of his beach house in Malibu, and not in any financial straits. Not that you’d know it from the listing, which refers to the five-bedroom spread as “priced for an immediate sale.” Of course, that doesn’t mean the place is cheap, far from it. Carrey has the 2,900-square-foot California contemporary listed for $13.95 million.

While most beachfront houses in Malibu cost a pretty penny, this one is especially exclusive for being located inside the guard-gated Colony, a private community popular with celebrities. Six-figure rentals are not uncommon in the sought-after neighborhood and a laundry list of luminaries have passed through its gates. The Shah of Iran built an extravagant home for his first daughter here in the 1970s, Pamela Anderson has taken to renting out her place as a vacation home for $75,000 a month, and producer Brian Grazer listed his 0.25-acre plot and house here last year for almost $20 million. Meanwhile, in the Big Apple, the frenetic funnyman has been renting for $25,000 per month while hunting for a suitable permanent pad. In February, Carrey was spotted checking out an $8.6 million unit at Tribeca’s 101 Warren Street. The three-bedroom apartment, which rented back in April, sits up on the 32nd floor and boasts an enormous outdoor space.

Versace is a name with resonance in the fashion industry, so if you wish to be surrounded by the luxury that used to be a part of late Gianni Versace’s life and happen to have $125 million laying around, you can now purchase the late designer’s Miami house as it was just listed on the market.

Celebrity homes have always been a point of attention for people and one of the celebrity mansions that still manage to make traffic stop is late Gianni Versace’s Miami home which is situated on famous Ocean Drive, facing the Atlantic Ocean. Beautifully forged iron gates featuring the fashion label’s trademark logo guard the grand entrance to the amazing mansion which features 10 bedrooms that display a high dose of luxury, 11 baths featuring custom Italian marble, a personal Observatory room, a gorgeous pool that will steal all the attention and more. The house has been listed for the asking price of $125 million, so if you happen the have that kind of money laying around, the house could become your dream mansion.

The late fashion designer, Gianni Versace, who was shot to death on the steps of his mansion which is also known as ‘Casa Casuarina’, chose to go all original with the designs of his home and opted for fresco paintings on the walls, beautiful colors, all deluxe elements that combine classic elegance with a drop of opulence and an irrefutable high level craftsmanship.

The house built in the 1930s was purchased by Gianni Versace in 1992 and it’s been reported that the Italian fashion guru spent a whopping $33 million renovating the mansion to turn it into his dream house. That is still an impressive sum of money to spend on renovating even today, so no wonder that the house still maintains that classic, fantasy, chateau allure that has made the designer fall in love with the home. The house was in 2009 turned into a boutique hotel and restaurant and now the owner has decided to put the house on the market. Each room has a different décor featuring hand painted frescoes on the walls and massive wood furniture that goes perfectly with every detail of the home. If you’re an outdoor person you’re going to love the backyard which features a Versace logo path and a gorgeous 54-foot long mosaic tiled pool lined with 24K gold.

Charming Southern Beach House

House with a view

This oceanfront home at DeBordieu represents the very best in design, materials and quality construction you would expect to find in this private, gated community just north of Charleston, South Carolina.

While a beach house by definition, the owners spared no expense in creating great style and function so their family could experience the pleasure of being able to get away from it all at the beach, while surrounding themselves with the comforts and amenities they would want at their full time residence.

According to Architect Wayne Rogers of Catalyst Architects, “the design intent was to tuck the kitchen away – yet leave it open to the Living and Dining Rooms, keeping it on a diagonal axis with the fireplace.”

The ocean-side porches wrap around the Kitchen, Living and Dining Rooms to take maximum advantage of the prevailing SE sea breezes. The view of the Atlantic is spectacular.

The Master Suite is located on the main floor, as is the Library, which was placed away from the activity of the Living room to keep it quiet and private. Upstairs, each of the four guest bedrooms has their own bath, and share a large sitting room.  A door at the top of the stairs allows the upper level to be closed off from the Main Living Level of the house.

On the very top level, there is additional attic space which can easily be converted into a studio or sixth bedroom, and access to a roof top deck which have become very popular in coastal communities like DeBordieu where everywhere you look is a wonderful view of the ocean, creeks or marsh.

The entire home is wood paneled with no sheet rock being used. The ground level is well finished and affords ample space for vehicles, boats, and golf carts. This is truly a remarkable home for the discerning family looking for oceanfront privacy as well as the very best DeBordieu has to offer.

DeBordieu Colony is an oceanfront community located just south of Pawleys Island, South Carolina featuring private golf and tennis, saltwater creek access to the ocean, a manned security gate, and luxury homes and villas surrounded by thousands of acres of wildlife and nature preserves. Kennedy Compound Officially Entered the Price Chopper Hall of Fame

A Hyannis Port property located within the Kennedy Compound has officially entered the Cape Cod Curbed Price Chopper Hall of Fame. The oceanfront estate was listed for the first time in 2010 with a $13.5 million asking price. At the time, it was considered one of the most expensive summer homes available. Two years and three major pricechops later, the sellers have brought the asking price slightly closer to earth. The property is now listed at $4.9 million, more than 60% off the original asking price.

Built in 1928, the seven bedroom home overlooks Nantucket Sound and includes a guesthouse as well as a private beach. The compound is located on a private road with a seasonal security guard, no doubt there to ward off the inevitable tourists, paparazzi and random interlopers.

Hot Property, Cohasset

Situated on its own 9.41-acre peninsula with approximately 1,800 feet of ocean frontage in Cohasset, Massachusetts, The Oaks is a palatial estate bearing a rich history and decades of painstaking care and maintenance. After years of occupancy by various residents (among them actor Lawrence Barrett and later Clarence W. Barron, owner of the Dow Jones Company, the Wall Street Journal, and Barron’s Weekly), the home, originally built in 1850, was razed in the early 1930s, when the currently standing Georgian Revival-style incarnation was built in its place. Aside from a storied past, the palatial 24,000-square-foot estate, which is located on the site of Cohasset’s largest 19th-century shipyard, is rife with exceptional amenities, including a private beach and a protected deepwater dock. Additional details of the 10-bedroom, seven-plus-bathroom mansion can be viewed at jonathanradford.com.

The Details: $22.2 million for The Oaks as stand-alone property, $44,900,000 for entire Cohasset Harbor portfolio. Jonathan P. Radford, Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, 617-266-4430 (office), 617-335-1010 (mobile), jonathan@jonathanradford.com, jonathanradford.com.

Paul Mitchell Systems Co-Owner, Angus Mitchell

Angus Mitchell

Angus Mitchell, co-owner of Paul Mitchell Systems, knows a thing or two about beauty—and we aren’t just talking hair.

As co-owner of Paul Mitchell Systems, world-renowned stylist and educator Angus Mitchell keeps a jet-setter’s schedule, traveling between his namesake salons and endless engagements. In between, Mitchell, son of late hair-cutting guru Paul Mitchell, finds time to recharge at his coastal properties in Hawaii, Canada, and Southern California. —L.L.

You spend a lot of time considering aesthetics. How does that affect how you see your homes? I see hair through architecture and design; I am sensitive to form and function through structure. I apply the same vision to hair as I do to my homes. My father purchased the land at Lanikai in the ’80s but never lived to see the construction through to completion. I have redesigned and redecorated different elements of the estate to enhance the natural coastal environment. I am currently going through a major renovation that incorporates surprise elements of design that I spent planning out in detail in my head before committing it to a blueprint. Lanikai embodies my deep appreciation for art and localism.

What other properties do you own? I recently purchased a 2,600-square-foot house on Victoria Beach in Laguna, California. Victoria Beach is known as the birthplace of skimboarding. The house was was built in 2006; it’s a Cape Cod-style home that leads directly onto the beach. Victoria Beach is my Hawaiian paradise in California; I call it “Hawaii nice.” The beaches are impeccable and I can truly relax and connect with the power of the ocean when I am there.

We hear you also have a place in Canada. I own a 27-acre private island in Canada, with a 6,000-square-foot home. It is a fishing/hunting lodge built in 1902. We rent this home out for weddings, but this island is my rustic getaway. The views of the water from the hiking trails on the island are breathtaking. The water can get as warm as 80 degrees in the summer. It has a floating boathouse that garages the boats, the only transportation to and from the surrounding islands.

You support environmental initiatives. What’s your take on it? I believe in living life selflessly, not selfishly. On a greater scale, this mantra is pertinent to the preservation of Hawaii’s coastal land. In December 2011, I donated my favorite coastal property in Turtle Bay, Hawaii, to the Nature Conservancy. Together we are committed to protecting the land so that generations to come can appreciate [Hawaii’s] scenic and historical coastline.

The Details The Paul Mitchell Estate, Lanikai, Hawaii. Bedrooms: 7. Bathrooms: 6 full, 5 half. Special features: Outdoor pool/Jacuzzi, massage/lounge area, and firepit. Land purchased: 1980s. Style: Polynesian.
