The May/June 2011 issue of Ocean Home magazine features its annual list of the best oceanfront homes for sale

Ocean Home magazine, a luxury oceanfront lifestyle publication, announces its fourth annual list of the “Top 25 Ocean Homes” for sale in the U.S. from coast to coast. The article, which is in the current issue (May/June), showcases the most exotic, luxurious, and desirable oceanfront homes currently on the market.

All homes featured are located directly on the ocean and offer the ultimate in luxury, amenities, acreage, and square footage. Homes chosen for this feature not only have the best architectural and interior designs, but are also located in the most desirable neighborhoods in the United States.

Comments Ocean Home’s editor, Lindsay Lambert, “Be it a huge oceanfront master suite with panoramic views or 48 oceanfront acres, it takes more than a massive price tag to qualify a home as worthy of being deemed one of our best of the best. Of course, location, location, location is a key reason these incredible homes make our list…as are the properties’ water views, beach access, and overall style and design.”

This year’s list spans 10 states, including Alabama, California, Maine, and Rhode Island. The top-price home is located in Montauk, New York and is listed for $50 million by Susan Breitenbach of the Corcoran Group.

Adds Lambert, “We searched high and low for the best of the best. From Mediterranean villa-style homes to palatial cliffside estates, these dream homes represent the top of the market. If you want a seaside home, your search begins in our May/June issue.”

Palos Verdes, California – April 2009 – In sync with the tranquility, wisdom and splendor of the natural world, The Spa at Terranea offers guests a peaceful haven where life-enriching programs bring balance to body, mind and spirit. “Time” and “place” play central roles in the spa experience with treatments and activities timed to our natural body clocks, while design, décor and products showcase the natural beauty of Terranea’s stunning location. Opening June 1, 2009, the 102 acre Terranea Resort is managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts and developed by Lowe Enterprises.

It’s About Time….. The Spa at Terranea offers a menu that is mindful of the body’s natural circadian rhythms. In the morning, when the body’s internal rhythm dictates a rise in temperature, hormonal levels and blood pressure, the spa offers vibrant and invigorating treatments such as barefoot walking, coastal hikes, sunrise yoga, cleansing rituals and energetic massage. As the body begins its slow, cooling process in the afternoon to prepare for rest, the spa features gentle, quieting treatments that encourage rest and relaxation including meditation, aromatherapy, soothing wraps and tranquil baths.

Four signature rituals that showcase this concept include:

Signature Morning Rituals:

Reflections in Crystal (60 minutes):
This is invigorating foot treatment incorporates Crystal Quartz, singing bowls, a beautiful copper foot bath and reflex-structural foot massage to encourage alignment of body and mind. Crystal Quartz is indigenous to the property and is known for its energizing and cleansing properties. The treatment leaves guest stimulated and balanced both mentally and physically- the perfect way to start the day.

Ocean Prelude (120 minutes):
Ocean Prelude is inspired by the primordial source of life, the ocean, whose chemical composition mirrors human body fluid. In this stimulating treatment, sea salts, marine clay, laminaria (kelp) oil and kelp seaweed help to nourish the body’s inner currents. Guests begin with a replenishing seaweed wrap rich in vital nutrients before slipping into a warm salt water bath. Cleansed and nourished, guests indulge in a sensuous, robust long stroke laminaria oil massage. The benefits are better absorption of nutrients to improve skin tone, circulation, energy, focus and health.

Signature Afternoon/Evening Rituals:

El Segundo Blue – A Ritual of Metamorphosis (90 min):
The El Segundo Blue is a beautiful and rare butterfly that is only found on the Palos Verdes coast and native to the property. This treatment pays homage to the transformation and rebirth of the butterfly. Guests begin with a slow, rhythmic massage of sensuous, aromatic botanicals that help to detoxify and provide a deep sense of well being. Afterward, guests are cocooned in a sea blue mineral clay wrap rich in magnesium, the element of relaxation. A divine head & scalp massage inspires bliss and soaring dreams of flight.

Flickering Embers (120 min):
As the sun sets and night fall, it is the perfect time to prepare for rest and restoration. The glow of flickering embers from a nearby fireplace, the subtle alchemy of incense and the sound of ocean waves sets the tone for a deeply relaxing experience of the essential self. Guest begin by basking in the soothing warmth of a nutrient rich, detoxifying volcanic ash body wrap, which is followed by a neutral bath of fragranced essential oils and healing magnesium. Afterward, guests sip on an herbal elixir, then lie down and surrender to the ethereal pleasures of a Hara balancing massage. The Hara balancing massage is an abdominal massage – the Hara is the energy center of the body – that encourages full relaxation and rest. Warm, comforting marine poultices placed across the lower back, knees and neck gently prepare guests for a night of perfect rest.

It’s About Place….
Adding to the spa experience is an exquisite spa design that harnesses the energy and beauty of its surroundings. Ocean views reign throughout, particularly from the second story oceanfront co-ed lounge complete with cozy fireplace and walkout balcony that gives the illusion of being positioned directly over the ocean. Stone floors with sea shell formations and a barnacle encrusted fireplace speak of the sea below. Plaster wall coverings in orange and yellow remind guests of the sun’s warmth and radiance. A glass wall separating the lounge areas has a ripple effect reminiscent of the ocean water, while the glass wall in the couple’s treatment area is reflective of the pampass grass found in the area.

Spa goers can alternate between the oceanfront lounge and intimate outdoor lounge areas that feature hot tubs, cold plunges, fire pits and relaxation areas. For special occasions, the spa features three stunning VIP rooms; each set up to provide multiple treatments so that guests do not have to move rooms. The first offers sweeping ocean views, a free standing copper tub, a walkout oceanfront balcony and a Swiss shower. VIP Suite 2 is perfectly set up for couples with a built in fireplace surrounded by basalt stone from the property, hydrotherapy tub for two and two treatment tables. The final VIP suite offers the healing powers of an energy-friendly infrared sauna and Swiss shower, as well as two treatment tables.

The Spa at Terranea is a 25,000 square-foot facility that includes 24 luxury treatment rooms, three VIP suites, separate indoor/outdoor lounge retreats for men and women, lush garden areas with cozy fire pits, an oceanfront lap pool, 5,000 square foot Fitness and Wellness Center, full-service salon and spa café.

About Terranea:

April 8, 2009 (Berkeley, CA) – With the economy in turmoil, everybody is doing all they can to stretch a dollar these days. Seacology has been doing so all along. Founded in 1993 in Berkeley, California, the non-profit environmental organization for the protection of island biodiversity and culture has long made efficient use of donor dollars a priority. The results have been impressive, including close to 2 million marine and terrestrial acres saved around the world.

Along with a dedicated donor base, Seacology’s financial smarts have earned it a 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator three years in a row. Seacology gets tremendous bang for the buck as the projects it funds are built with volunteer labor, often in islands where the cost of building a school or community center is a fraction of what it would be in the U.S.

The organization also makes a point to stick to what it does best. “We concentrate on creating basic infrastructure in exchange for protected terrestrial and marine reserves,” says Duane Silverstein, Executive Director, who notes that while scientific research, lobbying and policy development are also needed, such pursuits would stretch Seacology too thin. “By focusing our efforts, we ensure that we do what we do extremely well and that our results are measurable and ready for objective analysis.”

Over the years, Seacology’s “win-win” approach to island conservation has seen the construction of 85 critically needed facilities for island populations, such as schools, community centers and water-delivery systems. The group runs annual trips to reveal its good work for the island communities that join in protecting their own culture and ecology. Among many recent examples of Seacology’s efforts and results:

On Kavarathi Island in the Lakshadweep Archipelago of India, Seacology is constructing an environmental education center in exchange for the establishment of a 500-acre marine protected area for 10 years. The local Lakshadweep Marine Research and Conservation Centre, with which Seacology coordinated its efforts, is committed to conservation and sustainable development of the region’s coral reef ecosystems. Seacology investment: $28,500, or $57 a protected acre.

On Emau Island, North Efate, in the Shefu Province of Vanuatu, Seacology’s efforts resulted in a kindergarten building and equipment for the Marou Community in exchange for a 32-acre “no-take” marine reserve and establishment of a 300-acre terrestrial reserve for a minimum of 10 years. Seacology investment: $13,287, or $40 a protected acre.

In the Sarinbuana Village of Bali, Indonesia, Seacology contributed a community building, school renovations and equipment in exchange for the endorsement of a permanent, 4,400-acre “no-take” rainforest reserve. The reserve’s opening ceremony, which was attended by donor guests on a Seacology expedition, was held in October 2007. Seacology investment: $20,000, or $4.50 a protected acre.

In the past decade alone, Seacology’s efforts have saved more than 1.8 million marine acres and more than 160,000 terrestrial acres, as well as innumerable plant and animal species that dwell there. There’s no putting a price on results like that.

To learn more about how Seacology is spending donor dollars efficiently, please visit www.seacology.org or call (510) 559-3505.

“This is an impressive record set by what will be an impressive ship and speaks volumes about the Cunard brand as well as for the resilience of the cruise sector as a whole in these challenging times,” said Carol Marlow, president and managing director of Cunard Line. “It is also very encouraging to see the level of interest in Queen Elizabeth coming from all our international markets, with bookings in the UK, US and Germany particularly strong. I urge our travel partners and those guests who have not yet booked to move fast in order to secure their place in history on Queen Elizabeth during her maiden season,” added Marlow.

One of the youngest fleets in the industry, Cunard’s famous state-of-the-art award-winning vessels Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria will be joined by Queen Elizabeth, and all three will take Cunard’s 170 years of history, heritage, impeccable service and tradition far into the 21st Century. This is a legacy recognized by Cunard guests, with up to 97% saying they will recommend Cunard to a friend and 98% saying they will return.

Queen Elizabeth will feature the unique Cunard traditions linking her with her sisters Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria and their predecessors, along with some exciting features that will give the vessel her own style and personality, plus all the modern day luxuries Cunard’s guests have come to expect.

Named after the first Queen Elizabeth, one of Cunard’s greatest ships, the new Queen Elizabeth will reflect her predecessor in interior grandeur, décor and style, but with a modern twist. From the outside, her distinctive black and red livery will hint at an experience that differentiates a Cunard liner from a modern-day cruise ship. This will be most evident in the ship’s adherence to liner traditions, with elegant double and triple height public rooms on a grand scale, luxuriously endowed with rich wood paneling, intricate mosaics, gleaming chandeliers and cool marbles. Art Deco features will pay homage to the original Queen Elizabeth and will allow the new ship to reflect a more civilized era of travel.

Queen Elizabeth’s maiden 2010 season will consist of six voyages, calling on 32 distinct ports in 18 countries. Her Maiden Voyage, now sold out, will depart from Cunard’s homeport of Southampton on October 12, 2010, en route to the Atlantic Isles.

The ship will then embark on five celebratory inaugural voyages, for which space is still available but selling fast:

Kicking off on Queen Mary 2’s first Transatlantic Crossing of 2009, new programme includes Science Club benefits

2 April, 2009 – Cunard Line is partnering with Oxford University Press (OUP) to introduce the Cunard/Oxford University Press Science Club, a multi-faceted membership programme featuring the new onboard Science at Sea lectures by prominent science writers. In addition, guests can join the Science Club, affording ongoing opportunities to stay abreast of the latest in popular science publishing through quarterly OUP email newsletters, invitations to book launches and more. The programme kicks off on Queen Mary 2’s 8 April, 2009 westbound Transatlantic voyage—the ship’s first Crossing of the 2009 season—on which three leading scientists and science writers will be on hand for lectures, book signings and interviews.

Headlining the inaugural Science at Sea voyage on 8 April will be authors Jerry Coyne, the American professor of biology known for his commentary on the intelligent design debate; Philip Ball, winner of the Association of British Science Writers award for the best communication of science in a non-scientific context; and Jim Horne, director of the Sleep Research Centre at Loughborough University. The authors will deliver three lectures each, sign copies of their books and be interviewed by Queen Mary 2’s entertainment director. Additional Science at Sea voyages aboard Queen Mary 2 are scheduled for 13 – 19 June, 29 August – 4 September, and 9 – 15 October, 2009.

Prior to forming the Science at Sea programme, Cunard surveyed more than 3,000 guests on their interest in science and the particular topics about which they would like to know more. Among the hottest topics are genetics, astronomy and oceanography.

Marrying cutting-edge design, modern conveniences and the tradition of exclusivity and service at one of the world’s finest resorts, One Thousand Ocean in Boca Raton represents the ideal convergence of luxury condominium and premier resort-style living.

The dramatic, seven-story, curvilinear building – under development by LXR Luxury Resorts & Hotels – is situated on a private peninsula bordering one of the most coveted inlets in South Florida. Here, one is surrounded by sweeping panoramas of the ocean and Intracoastal Waterway on three sides, as well as vistas of sky and city. Immediately adjacent to One Thousand Ocean to the north is the Boca Raton Resort & Club’s Beach Club, a recently remodeled oasis at the edge of the Atlantic.

“Because One Thousand Ocean is on the grounds of the Boca Raton Resort & Club, residents will have access to all the amenities of the Resort, not only at the Beach Club but also at the main locale just across the waterway,” explained Jamie Telchin, LXR’s president of development.

A legend among the world’s resorts, the AAA 4-Diamond-rated Boca Raton Resort & Club is a haven of lush beauty, comfort and sophistication.

“This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for 52 select residents to have the most prestigious address in South Florida. Without question, One Thousand Ocean has all of the components that set a new standard in luxury waterfront living,” Telchin said. “Our discerning buyers are accustomed to having conveniences at their fingertips.
Inside the new building, two-story Beach Villas harmoniously blend with Residences and Penthouses. Units average 4,000 square feet under air, with terraces averaging just under 1,200 square feet. Prices start at approximately $2.75 million.
The diversity of floor plan choices enables buyers to create a home that is uniquely their own – one infused with natural light through floor-to-ceiling glass. Also included are private elevator landings, fireplaces and two-car garages. Top-of-the-line finishes and soft silhouettes further contribute to inviting spaces just right for social gatherings or quiet time alone.

Understated elegance and remarkable artistic precision are evident throughout. Master bedrooms are complemented by expansive his/her dressing rooms with custom-designed millwork. Appointed with marble and stone, spa-like baths are the perfect sanctuaries. Signature Italian cabinetry with stone countertops and mosaic-accented backsplashes combine with SubZero refrigeration, Wolf natural gas ranges, Miele dishwashers and Julien sinks to define the impeccably crafted gourmet kitchens. And, spacious, open-air outdoor terraces were never better, as they are outfitted with private plunge pools and outdoor kitchens.

“When you add in the spectacular vistas and the resort lifestyle advantages, it is hard to compare this property to any other,” Telchin remarked.
